Bre Szabo is a compassionate Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern dedicated to facilitating personal growth, healing, and empowerment for individuals and couples. With a genuine and empathetic approach, Bre creates a safe and non-judgmental environment where clients can explore their inner worlds and begin transformative journeys of self-discovery. Embracing diversity in all its forms, Bre is also deeply committed to creating an affirming space for everyone, offering LGBTQ+ and polyamory affirming counseling.
Taking a client-centered approach, Bre believes in tailoring her methods to meet the unique needs of each individual, drawing from a wide range of evidence-based strategies. As an experiential counselor, Bre believes in engaging the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—in the therapeutic journey. Through expressive techniques and experiential exercises, Bre guides clients towards greater self-awareness and emotional resilience, empowering them to tap into their inner wisdom and capacity for healing.
Outside of counseling, Bre finds joy in music and nature. Whether soaking up the sun at the beach or attending live concerts with her partner, Bre treasures moments of relaxation and connection.
Background & Approach
Bre started her journey in the mental health field after graduating from The Ohio State University in 2016 with double majors in Psychology and Philosophy, as well as a minor in Sexuality Studies. Motivated by her professional experiences in crisis intervention and victim advocacy, Bre pursued her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, graduating from Walden University in 2024. With over 8 years of experience in the mental health field, Bre has honed her skills in crisis intervention and trauma-informed care, laying a strong foundation for her counseling career.
Utilizing an integrative counseling approach, Bre incorporates a diverse array of evidence-based modalities to empower clients in overcoming obstacles. Her toolkit includes mindfulness, guided meditation, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), the Flash Technique for trauma and phobias, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), motivational interviewing, Expressive Arts Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, and The Gottman Method for couples.

As a Certified Crisis Specialist with The American Association of Suicidology, Bre brings expertise in addressing suicidal ideation and self-harm. In addition to her specialized training in crisis intervention, Bre has received extensive training in complex trauma and couples counseling. Her areas of specialization include trauma, depression, OCD, body dysmorphia, suicidal ideation, self-harm, insecure attachment, and couples counseling. Bre’s professional experience also extends to working with teens and adults impacted by anxiety, phobias, eating disorders, and addiction.
