What should I expect during a counseling session?2024-03-28T13:57:29-04:00

Your first session with a counselor will be different from future visits. The initial visit is a period for you and your counselor to get to know each other and get an idea of how to proceed. Future visits will be more therapeutic in nature. For example, in your second session, you may explore a specific symptom, situation, or past trauma you mentioned in the first session.

We believe life is a journey, and every journey is unique. It takes courage to get started with therapy. We want you to know that we know that you are strong and that you are making the right choice to become even stronger. It depends. The American Psychological Association suggests considering therapy when something causes distress and interferes with some part of life, particularly when:

  • Thinking about or coping with the issue takes up at least an hour each day
  • The issue causes embarrassment or makes you want to avoid others
  • The issue has caused your quality of life to decrease
  • The issue has negatively affected school, work, or relationships
  • You’ve made changes in your life or developed habits to cope with the issue

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, we invite you to reach out to our counseling team. We offer a free 15 minute consultation so that you can see if you think counseling would be the right fit for you.
